NOW OFFERING DOG TRAINING

with Alex Wright!

Alex Wright, Dog Trainer

Alex has had eight years of rich animal behavior and training experience ranging from working with wild and domesticated animals at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium to working with shelter dogs as the Behavior Coordinator at the Washington Humane Society. Alex has gained certifications in training from Petco, Off Leash K9 Training and two diplomas from CATCH Canine Training Academy. While Alex has great experience training dogs, she also holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Penn State University, which helps her not only connect and work with her dog clients but also her human clients! Since starting at Pleasant Valley Veterinary Clinic, she has gained valuable veterinary technician skills and knowledge that helps her navigate the very critical relationship between behavior and illness. Alex’s personal training philosophy is to “Train the dog in front of you”, which holds to Pleasant Valley’s core value of individualized gold standards. She believes that every dog is different, and she has to gear her training methods to meet each individual dog’s needs. She uses techniques such as positive reinforcement, classical & operant conditioning, counter conditioning, and correction to train her dog clients. Alex does not believe in “dominance theory”, and the idea of an owner needing to be the “alpha dog.” Alex has also trained her own dog Ayla, who has been the guinea pig for all of her training techniques. Alex enjoys watching anime and spending time with Ayla in her spare time.

Services Offered

Training Session: $100

When you bring your dog for a training session you will drop your dog off at our Pleasant Valley Kennel with Alex and she will go over your dog's goals for the day. Your dog will then stay in one our kennels until it’s time for their session! Each session will last 30 – 60 minutes depending on your dog’s needs. Alex will also video the key parts of the session that will be most helpful to you when you continue their training at home. Alex will then call you and let you know that your dog is ready to go home and set up a time where Alex can go over all the skills your dog accomplished that day.

Board & Train: $65

Is your dog staying with us while you’re on vacation? Why not set up a training session with Alex during their stay? The training session will be set up very similarly to a regular session. If you need to pick up a pet on a day when Alex isn’t here, she can set up another time for you to come back in and go over your dog’s session.

Training Consult: $35

This consultation is for you to have a chance to speak to Alex about specific issues you have been having with your dog. The result of this session might be setting up training sessions with Alex or her giving you a referral to see another specialized trainer or even one of our doctors here at Pleasant Valley.

Meet & Greet: $15

This is just a short meeting with you and your dog, so they can meet and see how comfortable your dog is at the facility. This would happen and is a requirement before any training session is scheduled.
